Get The Party Started With Creole Turkey Meatballs

If you're having a Mardi Gras party, these Creole Turkey Meatballs are a must have! Even if you don't have a Mardi Gras party you can still make them and your party goers will love them.

I usually make these the day before my event. That way I still have time to prepare other dishes, decorate and make plenty of store runs. To serve, just heat them up in a 350 degree oven for about 10-15 minutes. Or you can reheat them on the stovetop. Either way, just be sure to keep an eye on them so they don't burn.

Ingredients

MEATBALLS 1 & 1/2 lbs ground turkey

1 egg, lightly beaten

1/2 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs

1/4 cup green bell pepper, chopped

1/4 cup onion, chopped

1/2 teaspoon celery salt

3/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper/ground red pepper

2 tablespoons tomato sauce (from can below)

SAUCE

2 tablespoons oil

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1-15oz can tomato sauce

2 tablespoons currant jelly

1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon cayenne/ground red pepper

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In large bowl, combine ground turkey and all of remaining ingredients; mix well.

Using tablespoon, shape ground turkey into meatballs. You should end up with about 45 meatballs.

Place in greased baking pan, bake in oven for 15-20 minutes or until completely cooked.

While meatballs are cooking, heat oil in large saucepan over medium-high heat until hot.

With a wire whisk or fork, stir in flour and cook until flour turns a deep brown color.

Stir in remaining tomato sauce and remaining sauce ingredients.

Bring to a low boil, stirring constantly, let mixture cook about a minute.

Add cooked meatballs to sauce, stir gently coating all meatballs.

Serve with cocktail picks/toothpicks.
