All Ground Turkey Recipes Are Not The Same!

Everywhere I turn I see ground turkey recipes for burgers, chili, meatloaf and meatballs. Now don't get me wrong...I like the food I just mentioned. But can't we use ground turkey for more than that?

Of course we can.

Whenever a recipe calls for ground beef, you can substitute it with ground turkey. It's lighter, healthier, and sometimes less expensive.

Know what kind of ground turkey you're getting before you buy it. There are three different kinds of ground turkey;

1. Ground Turkey Breast is the leanest. It has only 2-4% fat, and has no skin in it.

2. Regular Ground Turkey is made with light and dark meat, has some skin and about 8-10% fat.

3. Frozen Ground Turkey is most dark meat and has almost 15% fat.

You can use either in your recipes, but pay attention to the recipe. Some recipes call for a specific kind of ground turkey meat. The frozen ground turkey is better for burgers and meatloaf, while the ground breast is better for tomato based recipes that include pasta.

Don't go analyzing your recipes for the best ground turkey to use. They're all good to use...just pay attention to the recipe. It'll tell you if you need a specific kind of ground turkey.
